Description

Wien, Montan, 1961. 60 parts in 61. 8vo (20.5 x 14.7 cm). Thousands of pages, numerous illustrations including full-sized plates of which some in full colour. Publishers printed wrappers. = “Franz Kirnbauer (1900-1978) was a practical miner and until his death an indefatigable collector, artist, and promotor of mining culture and folklore tradition. Kirnbauer is considered the founder of the Austrian mining folklore, and has published (among others) 176 “Leobener Grüne Hefte” (Leobener green issues; after the colour of the boards) between 1951 and 1978, which may be counted as an irreplaceable and valuable primary sources for mining.” (sagen website). Nearly all volumes are republications of an old mining book or manuscript, edited and explained by Kirnbauer. Several are quite substantial, including number 48: on Das Steinbuch des Konrad von Megenberg; 100: on Kerns Abhandlung vom Berg-Bau; 132: on Die Saline Hall i. Tirol - 700 Jahre Tiroler Salz - 1272-1967; and 148: 3000 Jahre Grubengeleuchte - Zur Geschichte der Grubenlampe. A few with owner's inscription, but generally quite clean. A very good, rich and varied set.
