RARE beautifully illustrated book depicting the lives of two major figures: Silvio Pellico (1789-1854), an Italian writer, poet, dramatist and patriot, and Alexandre Andryane (1797-1863), a French politician. Both were supporters of the cause of the Carbonari and prisoners in the Austrian fortress of Spielberg at Brünn (today's Brno), Pellico from 1822 to 1830, and Andryane from 1824 to 1832. 340x235mm. 562 pages. Hardcover rebound. Gilt text block edges. Cover somewhat stained and slightly worn. Cover edges partly rubbed. Cover corners bumped and tattered. First whitepage slightly stained and creased. Last page and whitepage bottom corner dog-eared and slightly age-stained, last whitepage bottom edge slightly torn (10mm). First 14 pages bottom edge slightly stained and slightly creased. Pages slightly yellowing, several pages with small age-stains. All pages are otherwise clean. All plates clean. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare and magnificently illustrated book is in good condition.
