Description

Seatle, WA, The Calliostoma Company, 1957. 8vo (22.4 x 15.4 cm). 75 pp.; 45 plates. Green buckram with gilt title on the spine. Original printed wrappers bound in. = A seldom-seen privately published work by the Canadian-American malacologist and herpetologist Trevor Charles Digby Kincaid (1872-1970). The work is unusual in that the author published only a few copies, and each had the many original photos carefully tipped in by the author. Provenance: stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) in the top margin of the front free endpaper and front wrapper. A few photos and captions detached; otherwise a very good copy. Loosely inserted: two handwritten leaves with additional information on Thais lamellosa and related taxa. Interestingly, one is written on an address label of the Collectors Club in NYC, and sent to the philatelist, Rembrandt etchings connoisseur and klutzy malacologist Gordon Nowell Usticke, then residing on St. Croix. The handwriting seems to be Usticke's.
