With 17 engr. folding plates. XVIII, 546 pp. Contemp. red morocco, gilt supralibros of Empress Maria Theresa, gilt floral borders, outer edges and spine gilt, all edges gilt. Vienna, Johann Thomas Edler von Trattner, 1777. Excerpts from Wolff's "Elementa matheseos universae", first published in 2 volumes on 1713-15, enlarged to 5 volumes in 1730-41. It was the more scientific counterpart of Wolff's famous "Anfangsgründe aller mathematischen Wissenschaften". Christian Johann von Wolff (1679-1754) from Breslau, a leading figure of the German enlightenment, was Professor of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Halle University. Distinguished copy with the arms of Empress Maria Theresa (1717-1780), Archduchess of Austria, daughter of Emperor Charles VI, wife of Emperor Francis I Stephen, mother of Marie Antoinette, Queen of France. This book was later in the library of Albert of Saxe-Teschen (1728-1823), with printed Albertina shelf-label A 37/ P 3/ No. 39 on inner front cover.
