8vo., First Edition, on laid paper, some light offsetting to blank preliminaries only; original blue cloth, gilt back, yellow top, uncut, backstrip very lightly faded (but all gilt entirely legible) else a remarkably bright, clean copy in dustwrapper, the latter very lightly browned at backstrip. Sassoon's first published work in prose and a classic of the genre. The author's name was not printed until the second issue of the second impression. This is the so-called 'second issue' with 'A' on blank leaf preceding half-title, though Keynes states that these 'typographical irregularities have no significance whatever, since they were both printed and published at the same time'.
