Description

First and only edition of this monumental compilation of letters from Pierre Louÿs (1870-1925) to his half-brother Georges (1847-1917), a diplomat. 1319 pp (!). One of the great literary correspondences of the turn of the century. Laid into this copy, exceptionally, is AN AUTOGRAPH LETTER FROM PIERRE LOUYS TO HIS BROTHER, dated December 12, 1910. This letter, written in Louÿs' neat hand on fine wove paper with his characteristic purple ink, is four pages (two conjugate leaves), about 400 words. It discusses the long period France has gone without civil war, and then connects that topic to the current political situation and labor unrest. IT IS PUBLISHED AS LETTER 619 (pp. 831-2) IN THE BOOK. 4to. Original wraps. Both book and letter are bright and fine, with no defects. UNIQUE.
