Description

This is a very good softcover copy in stiff card covers, with just a little light cover wear at the top right corner which is scratched. Completely clean inside and out. Outside the covers have a little faint toning. This was the first full-scale monograph on Resnick's work, which resulted from an acquaintance that Cathcart initiated with Resnick when she discovered that no-one had written extensively about his work. Resnick (1917- 2004) is one of the major artists in the first generation of abstract expressionists, who became active just after the second World War. He was in Paris in the late 1940's along with Philip Guston, de Kooning, and the critic Harold Rosenberg. Later he was a regular at the Cedar Tavern and the 8th Street Club. His reputation slowly rose during the late 1950's and early 1960's as major museums began to take notice of his work. He never achieved real name recognition and by the late 1970's had retired from the scene, though still very actively painting. Cathcart helped resuscitate interest in him again with this monograph. About 53 works in the exhibition. Illustrated in color and black & white with a number of fold-outs. Statement by the artist. Extensive chronology. Selected One Artist Exhibitions and Reviews. Selected Group Exhibitions and Reviews. Selected bibliography. Errata sheet laid in. 11" high X 10" wide, 110 pages. This book will be securely wrapped and packed in a sturdy box and shipped with tracking.
