RARE 1885 printing of the popular HEBREW play "Meluchat Shaul" (Reign of Saul), written in the late 18th century. The play, which dramatizes the rivalry between David and Saul, won great popularity among the Jewish public in the 19th century, and was printed in several editions, in the original Hebrew and in Yiddish translation, in Eastern and Central Europe. This edition was printed in Warsaw by the the renowned Hebrew publisher Yitzchak Goldmann. 110x170mm. 150 pages. Marbled quarter-cloth rebound Hardcover. Small part of original spine taped on restored spine. Cover worn and peeling. Stickers and pen inscription on cover. Cover edges and corners bumped and peeling. Spine torn in several places and worn. Ex library copy with usual marks on cover and stamp on title page. Library card pocket on rear endpaper. Front whitepage and title page detached from binding. Rear whitepage edge torn and partly missing. Small stain on text block edges. Small bump/puncture-mark on page shoulders of about half of the pages. Pages yellowing.
