Description

Manuscript in Ottoman Turkish, in dark brown and black ink on manufactured pre-period European watermarked paper; a very clean document except for the fold marks, measuring 35.5 x 21 cm, with 26 lines. Selânik'te Yalilar cihetindeki Cami-i Serif Sokagi'nda kain (hududlari belirtiliyor) mahdud olan ve Selânik Mahkeme-i Serifesinin 8 Cemazielevvel 1341 tarih, 846 sicil numerolu vakifnamesiyle yine Selânik müftülügünde 21 Eylül 1924 tarih ve 153 numerolu ilam ile teblig(?) edilmis 36, 300, 44, numerolu üç kitasinda resmi ile 2400 kusur arsundan [i.e., arsin] ibaret ve 1913 senesi kiymetlerine göre bin arsun 6,5 liradan ibaret . kurus kiymeti: 6000 Altin. [In English]: In Thessaloniki, in the direction of the Yaiilar, located on Cami-i Serif Street (boundaries specified), limited and registered in the deed of trust of the Thessaloniki Sharia Court dated 8 Cemazielevvel 1341, with registry number 846, and also notified by the Thessaloniki Muftiate on 21 September 1924 with decree number 153, consisting of three parcels numbered 36, 300, and 44, together with its official record, amounting to over 2,400 arshins [i.e., an Ottoman unit of length], and according to 1913 values, one thousand arshins valued at 6.5 lira . total value: 6,000 gold coins. An exchange property valuation document, entirely handwritten in Ottoman Turkish and datable to [1924], which records the valuation of a total of 5 properties located in Thessaloniki and Ioannina, as described above. The document bears the note "its value is in gold," is signed by six exchangees, and one of the signatories is specified as a "non-exchangee (gayr-i mübâdil)". During the Exchange period conducted between Greece and the Republic of Turkey, the properties of six exchangees who migrated from Thessaloniki and Ioannina are recorded by the Thessaloniki Court, with their prices and characteristics stated according to the 1913 (end of the Balkan War) market value.
