London, The Linnean Society of London, 1881. 8vo (22.1 x 14.2 cm). 121 pp. [numbered 14-134]. = An important contribution to the knowledge of grasses, written by the British botanist George Bentham (1800-1884). "Born into a distinguished family, he initially studied law, but had a fascination with botany from an early age, which he soon pursued, becoming president of the Linnaean Society in 1861, and a fellow of the Royal Society in 1862. He was the author of a number of important botanical works, particularly flora. He is best known for his taxonomic classification of plants in collaboration with Joseph Dalton Hooker, his Genera Plantarum (1862-1883)" (Wikipedia). Stafleu and Cowan lists a 1970 reprint of the Notes on Gramineae, edited by J. Cramer, as 19th and last "Volume" of Supplemental Papers to Bentham and Hooker's Genera Plantarum. Uncut.
