Description

Seattle, WA, The Calliostoma Press, 1964. 8vo-sized (23.1 x 16.3 cm). 41 pp.; 18 plates. Original wrappers with title mounted on spine and front board. = A seldom-seen privately published work by the Canadian-American malacologist and herpetologist Trevor Charles Digby Kincaid (1872-1970). The work is unusual in that the author published only a few copies, and each had the many original photos carefully tipped in by the author. In fact, the whole work is made from photoreproductions of typewriter texts and plates, because, as the author explains "This paper has been produced by an unusual method. Since a very limited number of copies will be available it should not be regarded as a publication in the bibliographic sense, but rather as a private communication" (from the preface). Provenance: inscribed on the title by the American malacologist Crawford Neill Cate (1905-1981). Later in the library of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) but not marked as such.
