Description

8vo., First Edition, with a tipped-in illustration and large folding engraved map on cloth, COLOURED BY HAND IN OUTLINE, map lightly foxed, tiny later signature on front free endpaper; original green coarse-grain cloth, printed paper label on upper cover, printed paper label (lightly browned but entirely legible) on backstrip, red sprinkled edges, yellow endpapers, upper hinge cracked (but binding entirely sound), a splendid, crisp, clean copy. A PRESENTATION COPY FROM THE AUTHOR WITH HIS SIGNED HOLOGRAPH INSCRIPTION ON TITLE AND A LONG A.L.s TIPPED-IN AT END. With a contemporary sheet folded to 4pp containing a manuscript list in a very neat scholarly hand of 69 'ancient camps or hill fortresses in the County of Devon' and enclosing a separate manuscript plan of Milber Down Camp near Newton Abbot. With the author's memorial bookplate, and trade ticket of Exeter Rare Books, on front paste-down. This valuable work appeared originally as a series of articles in Trewman's 'Exeter Flying Post' newspaper. A SPLENDID AND UNIQUE PRESENTATION COPY. Rare. Brockett 17040. Astonishingly, not in Anderson.
