Description

Montevideo, Museo de Historia Natural de Montevideo, 1931-1932. 4to. 180 pp. [65; 31; 84]; plates, numerous text figures. Contemporary grained blue half cloth over marbled boards. Gilt title on the spine. = Three works of one of South America's most important and promising palaeontologists, Lucas Krachlievich (1886-1932), who for some reason became subject to political persecution during the dictatorship of José Félix Uriburu. He lived his last years in misery until he died, much too young , of a disease in Buenos Aires. These three papers were the last published during his life. Especially the large paper on fossil deer is important for its many taxonomical observations and acts. The fossil bird paper describes Devincenzia gallinali new genus, new species in the new family Devincenziidae. INCLUDED: the six pages obituary and bibliography of Krachlievich. This is the museum's Anales serie II, volum III, which also includes Devincenzi's paper, Aves del Uruguay. - IV. Pelecaniformes, accipitriformes, Cathartidiformes, and some smaller studies on plants and insects. Cancelled stamp on title page, otherwise a very good, clean copy. Note that this is the original publication, not one of those cheap print-on-demand editions.
