Name to a front end paper. No other marks or inscriptions. No creasing to covers or to spine. A clean very tight copy with very slightly marked boards, clear gilt lettering/embossing to slightly sunned spine, slightly dusty page edges and no bumping to corners. 344pp. Novel by Balzac set in a decrepit boarding house in Paris in 1819. Included amongst the great literature of the 20th century for example one of The Telegraph's 100 Greatest Novels of All Time. Undated ca 1920s.
