Description

No inscriptions or marks. A lovely clean very tight copy with bright unmarked boards and tiny bump to lower front corner. Dust jacket not price clipped but well rubbed, chipped and nicked. 504pp. The author, professor of English and of labor and industrial relations at the University of Illinois, has gathered more than 100 hard-won illustrations of coal-mining songs and related activities, including pictures of performers, song fests, recording sessions, Negro work songs, miners' meetings and union organizers, as well as examples of graphic forms that surround music : newspaper clippings, album covers, record labels, and advertisements. In addition, music for a dozen coal-mining songs is transcribed especially for this book.
