Signed by Professor Peter Townsend to front end paper. No other marks or inscriptions. No creasing to covers or to spine. A very clean very tight copy with bright unmarked boards, rubbing to spine ends, tanning to end papers and a little bumping to upper corners. Untrimmed top of page edges. Adverts plus 355pp. Written by socialist campaigner Charles Booth whose intervention on poverty led to the establishment of an Old Age Pension. Includes statistics from Royal Statistical Society Paper of 1891. From the Personal Library of the late Emeritus Professor Peter Townsend of Bristol University and the London School of Economics, Founding Professor of the University of Essex and founder of the Child Poverty Action Group.
