Description

First Edition, First Issue. Hayward #252. With errata slip at the end of the book. 8vo, in modern tan calf backed marble boards to contemporary style, the spine lettered and ruled in gilt. viii, 157, [1] pp A fine copy with just some very light occasional spotting.

Edizione: the author's first book, and probably not sold commercially. the publication contains his highly thought of sonnets, including the dedicatory sonnet to the author's famous father, samuel taylor coleridge. it is for these sonnets that hartley coleridge's literary reputation chiefly rests. while overshadowed, of course, by his father (one of the most influential figures in english literature), hartley coleridge is a romantic-era poet who's talents should not be dismissed.<br> although hartley was the subject of two of his father’s poems—“frost at midnight” and “the nightingale”— he was nonetheless estranged from his parents in his youth and was raised by the poet robert southey.
