Half-leather bound with gold lettering and decoration on the spine, 490 pages, 16.5 x 11.5 cm. The twenty-seventh book of Polydore Vergil's history of England. Vergil began composing this history of England at the encouragement of Henry VII. Three editions were published between 1534 and 1555, with each new edition covering more years.This twenty-seventh book covers an account of Henry VIII's reign to 1537, and includes a highly critical portrait of Wolsey. Vergil claimed that most of his work on the last book was done contemporaneously with the events as they unfolded.
