Description
The dedication, signed “Franc[es]co Vaccari”, continues like that: “Presento a V.S. Illlustriss. queste poche Prospettive, le quali con tutto che appariscono in lontananza, additano però anche da vicino in effetto d'una professata servitù il mio affetto […]”.
Italian painter and engraver from Medicina (Bologna), Vaccari was a scholar of Francesco Albani and is mostly known for his perspective and architectural views. As a painter he was mostly active in Bologna, Imola and Modena. He is cited by Malvasia in his Felsina pittrice (cf. G.K. Nagler, Neues Allgemeines Künstler-Lexikon, 1849, XIX, p. 287).
This seems to be his only publication, a series of twelve perspective views of ruins, fountains, and other edifices in Italy. While some single prints from this series are disseminated in various libraries and museum, only one other complete copy is known, now at the Getty Museum in Malibu.
