Original, uniform printed wrappers. = A detailed and finely illustrated monograph of the Cypraeidae (cowries) as then understood, i.e., including Triviidae and Ovulidae, written by the French biologist and malacologist Albert Jean-Baptiste Marie Vayssière (1854-1942), and published in the museum's Annales. Vayssière was a professor at the museum. He wrote mainly on cephalopods and opisthobranchs. Both copies uncut. Inscribed in the top margin of the front wrapper: Mr. Cotte, and Prof. Cotte, collaborateur. Jules Cotte (1873-1948) was a French medical doctor and zoologist, and head of the department of zoology, and later of the whole science department, of the university of Marseille. In the rear of the second volume a 17 pp. paper by Jean Risbec, titled De l'anatomie de trois strombinés et du Modulus candidus, Petit, qu'on trouve sur la côte de la presqu'île de Nouméa. Internally unmarked. First volume slightly toned; fairly weak fold in the rear of the second volume and spine cover torn at foot; otherwise a very good set. Rare, especially in complete state.
