Description

Cambridge, MA, The Museum of Comparative Zoölogy, 1911-1918. Two papers in one. Large 4to (30.0 x 25.2 cm). 233 [181; 52] pp.; 50 [40; 10] lithographed plates with explanatory text leaves. Later dark blue buckram with gilt titles on the spine. Original printed wrappers to both works bound in. = This volume contains one of the largest monographs on this little known class of molluscs, the Solenogastres. Written by the American marine zoologist Harold Heath (1886-1951), who provided detailed information on the anatomy, and described several new genera and species. The second paper, by Frank Mace MacFarland (1869-1951) deals with a group of udibranchs and includes a fine full colour plate of the living animal. Provenance: stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) in the top margin of the front free endpaper and front wrappers. The wrappers are rather well preserved, with only a small chip in one edge; otherise a very good, clean. Not in Nissen, who records several "Albatross" papers, but somehow overlooked these two.
