3 vols., 8vo., Second Edition, with 3 portrait frontispieces, 13 plates, and front and rear endpaper maps in first and second volumes, neat contemporarey inscription on front free endpapers; original blue cloth, gilt backs, a very good, bright, clean set. One of the outstanding biographies of the twentieth century, the trilogy was first published by Cambridge (1933-38) in plain typographical dustwrappers. When Collins secured the right to reprint, maps were produced for the second volume. NMML Catalogue II, Part 1, 1194-1196; Albion, p.215 (all recording the first edition).
