Sonst ein sehr gutes und sauberes Exemplar/ only the brochure is minimally bumped and rubbed. Otherwise a very good and clean copy. - These papers are the proceedings of an international symposium held at the Getty Villa of the J. Paul Getty Museum in June 2006 in connection with the exhibition The Colors of Clay: Special Techniques in Athenian Vases. The themes of the exhibitionvases executed in special techniques, such as bilingual, coral- red gloss, outline, Kerch-style, white ground, and Six's technique, as well as examples with added clay and gilding, and plastic vases and additionsare the jumping-off points for these essays. Grouped into four sections, the topics are "Social Contexts for Athenian Vases in Special Techniques," "Conservation, Analysis, and Experimentation," "Artists, Workshops, and Production," and "Ancient Markets and Exchange." The twenty-three contributors, comprising scholars, conservators, and scientists from museums, universities, and laboratories throughout the United States and Europe, present a range of expertise and opinions. Volume editor Kenneth Lapatin is associate curator of antiquities at the J. Paul Getty Museum at the Villa.
