Description
Andrew du Ryer (1580-1660) fu celebre orientalista e diplomatico, prima a Costantinopoli e poi ad Alessandria, dove fu console. Fu interprete di Luigi XIII e pubblicò alcune traduzioni da opere orientali e la prima traduzione integrale del Corano in una lingua viva - essendo le precedenti in Latino - "for the satisfaction of all that desire to look into the Turkish vanities" (dal titolo). Il libro fu interdetto dal Council of Conscience su insistenza di San Vincenzo de' Paoli. Edizione rara e di grande importanza per l'introduzione dell'Islamismo in Gran Bretagna. Buon esemplare, malgrado alone d'umido sugli ultimi 10 fogli. Ex-libris William J. Connery, al titolo firma G.Gregory 1735.
