Original blind-stamped cloth with gilt title on the spine. = Important monograph on New World oaks, with extensive descriptions and numerous illustrations of species from North and Central America, down to Colombia, and Cuba. Northern Mexico, especially, appears to be rich in species, and in South America indigenous oaks are near absent. The variability in leaf shapes is phenomenal. Written by the American botanist William Trelease (1857-1945). Published as Volume 20 of the Academy's Memoirs. Very uncommon, especially outside the USA. Pictorial bookplate on the front pastedown; binding weak, front hinge nearly detached, back hinge starting, spine ends a bit worn, otherwise a very good, clean copy. Stafleu and Cowan, 15036.
