Black and white frontis photos of authors who were captured in Africa in June 1942 and transfered to a POW camp in Italy from which they were released in September 1943, This book was written during their imprisonment. They were not heard from after December 1943 and it is assumed they were recaptured and lost their lives trying to escape during transit from Italy to Germany. - paraphrased from prefatory Note.
