Edizione: first printing of the folio society's impressive 'narnia' gift set. this handsome edition was printed on balmoral book wove paper by the st. edmundsbury press, bury st. edmunds. it faithfully reproduces the text and illustrations of the original editions printed between 1950 and 1956. the set presents the seven volumes in chronological order, not in the order they were originally published.
the chronicles of narnia are considered masterpieces of 20th century children's literature. called "portal fanasy", the series is set in the fictional realm of narnia. narnia is a magical world of mythic beasts and talking animals. except in 'the horse and his boy', the protagonists are all children from the real world who are magically transported to narnia and are called upon to protect the land from evil. the seven books span the entire history of narnia, from its creation in the magician's nephew to its eventual destruction in the last battle. the chronicles of narnia has been a significant influence on both adult and children's fantasy literature in the post-world war ii era.
laid into this set are several interesting pieces of ephemera relating to the 2005 film adaptation of the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe. these include a narnia-themed borders gift card, an "official" narnia passport, and two bookmarkers.
