Arguably the greatest, or at least the most influential, long poem of the 18th century; in time Young's masterpiece, a quasi-autobiographical narrative in blank verse, would be illustrated by Blake and read with close attention by Wordsworth and Coleridge, and it remained popular throughout the 19th century.
