3 vols., 8vo., First Edition, some light and occasional age-spotting (mainly to preliminaries); original blue pebble-grain cloth, upper boards blocked in gilt crest, gilt backs, uncut, first volume neatly rebacked with old backstrip laid down, covers lightly age-soiled else a very good, bright, clean copy. With 44pp publisher's catalogue at end of second volume. With the nineteenth century engraved armorial bookplate of Cecil de la Touche on front paste-downs, and an institutional bookplate on front free endpapers. The First Series is complete in itself. The first half of the reign of Victoria is covered in the Second Series 1837-1851 (3v; 1885) and Third Series 1852-1860 (2v; 1887). See Brown & Christie 198.
