Faint pencil note about the author on reverse of front end paper. No other marks or inscriptions. No creasing to covers or to spine. A clean very tight copy with rubbed, marbled half-leather boards, marbled end papers and page edges, rubbed ribbed gilt-embossed spine complete and intact and with rubbing to corners. 308 + 180pp. Very extensive account of the Norman Conquest followed by an account of the Merovingian Kings of Northern France who ruled from the 5th century until 751. Autobiographical preface over 13 pages. The final 75 pages contain 27 historical essays on a variety of subjects. Scarce.
