L'autore in questo volume raccoglie le biografie di John Donne, Henry Wotton, Richard Hooker, George Herbert, Robert Sanderson. Il testo è impreziosito da sei tavole fuori testo (cinque rappresentano i personaggi delle biografie e una le riproduzioni delle loro firme) incise da Bromley, Finden, Engleheart, Warren, Raddon. Ma la verà particolarità di questo esemplare è il "fore-edge painting" o "disegno a scomparsa", un dipinto sul taglio delle pagine che appare solamente tenendo il blocco di pagine tra il pollice e il resto delle dira e piegandolo in modo da allargare leggermente il bordo. Appaiono i dipinti dei personaggi descritti nell'opera. Da chiuso il volume sembra un normalissimo libro dai tagli dorati. Questo rende quest'opera unica. Questa tecnica era molto popolare verso il XVIII secolo per raggiungere il suo culmine fino all'inizio del XX secolo. In buone condizioni. But the real particularity of this work is the "fore-edge painting", a painting that appears only with a folding of fore edges. When closed the book is a common tome. This technique was very popular duraing 18th century to reach its peak to the beginning of 20th century. In good conditions.
