Description
Tiny name/address label to end papers and to title page. No other marks or inscriptions. No creasing to covers or to spine. A very clean very tight copy with bright unmarked boards and no bumping to corners. 236pp. The story of the Laconia, a cruise ship requisitioned as a troop carrier in the Second World War which was sunk by a German U-Boat in 1942 with the loss of almost 2,000 lives, many being Italian prisoners of war. Attempts were made to rescue as many as possible by other U-Boats, an Italian submarine and three French warships until Admiral Donitz forbade his submarines to attempt any more rescues.
