Description

London, The Linnean Society of London, 1894-1897. Large 4to. [ii], 538, [i] pp.; 43 lithographed plates. Contemporary polished calf. Spine with five raised bands; compartments with gilt floral borders and two (burgundy and black) labels with gilt title and gilt stippled borders. Boards with double -+gilt-lined and blind-tooled borders; inner dentelles, and marbled endpapers. Edges marbled. = A sumptuously bound copy of one of the most important zoological periodicals - with numerous fine, well-illustrated monographs. Before 1875, the Transactions contained both zoological and botanical papers. In this volume all but one monograph dedicated to various crustacean groups. Included are: Report on Entomostraca from the Gulf of Guinea, collected by John Rattray, by T. Scott; The Subterranean Crustacea of New Zealand: with some general Remarks on the Fauna of Caves and Wells, by C. Cotton; On a Freshwater Schizopod from Tasmania, by G. M. Thomson; The Comparative Morphology of the Galeodidae, H.M.Bernard; A revision of the British Copepoda belonging to the Genera Bradya, Boeck and Ectinosoma, by T. Scott and A. Scott; On some new or rare Phasmidae in the Collection of the British Museum, by W.F. Kirby; The Internal Anatomy of Bdella, by A. D. Michael. The vast majority of the pages and plates are devoted to crustaceans. Minor wear to board edges; a bit more to spine ends; light spotting, limited to the first and last few leaves. Definitely rare, especially in such a beautiful binding as this one. Cat. BM(NH), p. 1151.
