2 vols., 8vo., First Edition thus, with portrait frontispiece and 6 facsimiles (2 double-page and 4 full-page), 39 maps, charts and diagrams (19 double-page and 20 full-page) and 12 smaller maps, charts and diagrams all in the text; handsomely bound in full navy crushed morocco, sides with gilt frame border, backs with raised bands, second, third and fourth compartments lettered and numbered in gilt, all other compartments tooled in gilt, gilt tops, hand-made endpapers, ribbon markers, an elegant set ideal as a gift or for presentation. First two-volume edition, containing the unabridged text of the original four volumes augmented with revisions from the 1931 re-issue. For this edition, Churchill prepared a new Foreword to Vol. I and an updated Appendix I in Vol. II. In order to achieve the compression, the publishers provided slightly fewer and smaller maps.
