First Edition. Illustrated with 21 chromolithographs and 351 wood engravings, after Watteau, Vanloo, Rigaud, Boucher, lancret, J. Verney, Chardin, Jeauray Bouchardon, Saint-Aubin, Eisen, Gravelot, Moreau, Cochin, Wille, Debucourt, Etc. Large 8vo, very fine and luxurious contemporary three-quarter red morocco over marbled paper covered boards, the spine elaborately decorated in gilt, raised bands ruled in gilt separate the compartments, fully gilt within the panels which decorate the compartments, lettering in gilt in two compartments, morocco joins on the covers bordered with double gilt fillet rules, marbled end papers, all edges gilt. xvi, 489 pp. A very bright, fresh, and handsome copy with only very minor edgewear on boards, the pages and illustrative plates clean and in excellent order.

Edizione: a very scarce and marvelous work on 18th century french life, breathtakingly illustrated.
