Description

This work contains translations from the Chinese records of the travels of 2 Buddhist works: Fa-Haian, who visited India from AD 400 to AD 415, and of Sun Yun who travelled to India near the year 578. These travellers visited India to make a pilgrimage to the holy places here and to collect the holy books relating to Buddhist philosophy. There is an account of each of the cities and countries they visited, a record of the monasteries and the state of Buddhism, of the rituals and observances of the Buddhist. It traces their routes overland from China to the north western frontier provinces, into India, through the heart of India, to Ceylon and passing through the S.E. Asian countries back to China.
