True Fictions Fotografia visionaria dagli anni settanta a oggi Visionary photography from the 1970s until today

Il volume è dedicato al fenomeno della staged photography, la tendenza che a partire dagli anni ottanta ha rivoluzionato il linguaggio fotografico.
Attraverso oltre cento opere, il volume racconta come la fotografia abbia saputo raggiungere tra la fine del XX e gli inizi del XXI secolo vertici di fantasia e di invenzione prima affidate quasi esclusivamente al cinema e alla pittura.
Pesci rossi che invadono le stanze, cascate di ghiaccio nei deserti, città inventate, Marilyn Monroe e Lady D. che fanno la spesa insieme: tutto questo può accadere grazie a veri e propri set cinematografici allestiti per costruire una realtà parallela, oppure grazie alle nuove tecnologie e in particolare attraverso l’uso sempre più sofisticato di Photoshop, messo in commercio nel 1990.
La fotografia, regno della documentazione e dell’oggettività (presunte) diventa il regno della fantasia, dell’invenzione e della soggettività, compiendo l’ultima decisiva evoluzione della sua storia.

This volume is dedicated to the phenomenon of staged photography, a trend that revolutionised photographic language from the late 1970s onwards.
About seventy exhibited works show how photography was able to reach peaks of imagination and invention previously entrusted almost exclusively to cinema and painting.
Goldfish invading rooms, icefalls in deserts, invented cities: all this can happen thanks to stage movie sets that build a parallel reality, or thanks to new technologies, and in particular through the increasingly sophisticated use of Photoshop, as from 1990.
Photography, the (presumed) realm of documentation and objectivity, thus becomes the realm of fantasy, invention and subjectivity, marking the latest decisive evolution in its history.
