Contemporary grained, burgundy half cloth over marbled boards. Spine with gilt ornaments and title. Speckled edges. = A detailed and well-illustrated work on starch grains, including several separate monographs on the properties of the grains in species of Hyacinthus, Oxalis, Dieffenbachia, etc., and treating subjects such as their origin, and chemical and physical properties. The author, the German pharmacologist, cell-biologist, microscopist and botanist Arthur Meyer (1850-1922) was Professor of Botany in Marburg. The fine illustrations were made by himself. Armorial bookplate of the American zoologist and marine biologist Charles Atwood Kofoid (1865-1947) mounted on the front pastedown. A few pencil underlinings; an occasional spot; last plate slightly more spotted, otherwise a very good, clean copy in an attractive binding. Cat. BM(NH) p. 1298. Not in Stafleu and Cowan.
