Acquaforte e bulino, 1784, firmata in basso a sinistra. Bellissimo esemplare, stampato su quattro grandi fogli di carta vergata coeva, tagliati in segmenti, applicati su tela e più volte ripiegati. In ottimo stato di conservazione. La mappa murale della Liguria del Gravier è una variante della carta pubblicata a Londra da Andrew Dury e William Faden nel 1764/5. Come annunciato nel titolo di entrambe le carte, che peraltro è ripetuto in quattro lingue differenti, la mappa deriva da quella di Joseph Chaffrion, Milano 1685. Rispetto all’originale dello Chaffrion le versioni Dury e Gravier recano nel mare due cartigli con carte dettagliate della Corsica e della Sardegna, non descritte dalle bibliografie di Piloni e Cervoni. La carta genovese, probabilmente realizzata con la lastra del Dury, rispetto alla quale vengono apportate delle varianti, è dedicata al cittadino Michel Angelo Cambiaso dallo stampatore. Il cartiglio con il titolo e dedica è leggermente variato nei motivi ornamentali; in basso a destra, è presente un altro cartiglio aggiunto, con il particolare dell’isola di Capraia. Yves Gravier, noto anche con il nome italianizzato di Ivone, era un libraio ed editore di origini francesi, probabilmente di Marsiglia, attivo a Genova tra il 1780 ed il 1801 “.sous la loge de Banchi”. Molto noto soprattutto per aver pubblicato le edizioni italiane delle opere del cartografo marittimo Joseph Roux. Carta molto rara e decorativa. Etching and engraving, 1784, signed lower left. Gravier's wall map of Liguria is a variant of the map published in London by Andrew Dury and William Faden in 1764/5. As announced in the title of both maps, which moreover is repeated in four different languages, the map is derived from that of Joseph Chaffrion, Milan 1685. Compared to Chaffrion's original, the Dury and Gravier versions bear in the sea two cartouches with detailed maps of Corsica and Sardinia, not described by the bibliographies of Piloni and Cervoni. The Gravier map, probably made from the Dury plate, from which variations are made, is dedicated to citizen Michel Angelo Cambiaso by the printer. The cartouche with the title and dedication is slightly varied in its ornamental motifs; at the lower right, there is another added cartouche with a detail of the island of Capraia. Yves Gravier, also known by his Italianized name of Ivone, was a French-born bookseller and publisher, probably from Marseille, active in Genoa between 1780 and 1801 ".sous la loge de Banchi." Best known for publishing Italian editions of the works of maritime cartographer Joseph Roux. Very rare and decorative map. Cfr.
