Allegoria dell'Inverno

Un uomo nudo e barbuto reclinato su un sacco, con la faccia che soffia a sinistra. Rappresenta l'allegoria dell'Inverno. Acquaforte, 1634, firmata con le iniziali e datata sulla lastra. Da una serie di quattro tavole che rappresentano la stagione ed eseguite nel 1634 e pubblicate da François Langlois, il Ciartres. Una bella impressione, stampata su carta vergata contemporanea, con margini, buono stato. Charles Audran (1594-1674) fu un incisore francese, il primo della famiglia Audran che divenne eminente nell'arte dell'incisione. Nacque a Parigi nel 1594. Nella sua fanciullezza mostrò una grande disposizione per l'arte. Ricevette alcune istruzioni di disegno, e quando era ancora giovane andò a Roma per completare i suoi studi. Lì produsse alcune tavole che furono ammirate. Adottò quella specie di incisione che è interamente eseguita con il bulino, e sembra aver modellato il suo stile su quello di Cornelis Bloemaert. Al suo ritorno in Francia visse per qualche tempo a Lione, ma alla fine si stabilì a Parigi, dove morì nel 1674, a 80 anni. Marcò le sue stampe, che sono molto numerose, nella prima parte della sua vita con una "C-", fino a quando suo fratello Claude, che incise anche alcune tavole, le segnò con la stessa lettera; poi la cambiò con K., come iniziale di Karl. Charles Audran (1594–1674) was a French engraver, the first of the Audran family who became eminent in the art of engraving. He was born in Paris in 1594. In his boyhood he showed a great disposition for the art. He received some instruction in drawing, and when still young went to Rome to complete his studies. There he produced some plates that were admired. He adopted that species of engraving that is entirely performed with the graver, and seems to have modeled his style on that of Cornelis Bloemaert. On his return to France he lived for some time in Lyons, but finally settled in Paris, where he died in 1674, aged 80. He marked his prints, which are very numerous, in the early part of his life with a "C-", until his brother Claude, who also engraved a few plates, marked them with the same letter; he then changed it for K., as the initial of Karl.
