Gli diporti della villa

Al centro tre coppie di danzatori che si fronteggiano, le donne a destra e gli uomini a sinistra, circondati da spettatori e musicisti; sullo sfondo una fontana con un amorino; in lontananza, a destra e a sinistra, piccoli villaggi; su un ventaglio a forma di ovale elaborato. Copia in controparte di un lavoro di Stefano della Bella, con significative modifiche. Acquaforte e bulino, firmata in basso al centro. Sotto l'immagine, dettagli di produzione a destra e a sinistra: "Nichlas Cochin feit a paris Cum pri. Gli Diporti della Villa". Ventaglio attribuito a Nicolas Cochin il Vecchio. Descritto da Meaume (n. 1006) tra le opere di Jacques Callot, anche se da lui viene attribuito a Stefano della Bella. Esemplare nel presunto secondo stato (di tre?) con firma dell'editore Daman in basso a destra e la firma di Cochin. Alcuni esemplari dell’incisioni sono privi della firma di Cochin e recano l’imprint "Balthasar Moncornet ex a paris Cum pri". L’indirizzo dell’editore Daman, un tipografo francese che operò a Bologna intorno al 1650 ristampando le opere di vari artisti, lascia supporre che fu lo stesso Daman a inserire la firma di Cochin. Bellissima prova, stampata su carta vergata coeva con sottili margini su tre lati, rifilata alla lastra nella parte inferiore, leggere abrasioni sul lato destro, per il resto in ottimo stato di conservazione. Lettered below image, production details to right and left “Nichlas Cochin feit a paris Cum pri. Gli Diporti della Villa”. Fan ascribed by Nicolas Cochin the Elder. Described by Meaume (n. 1006) among the works of Jacques Callot, though rightly ascribed by him to Stefano della Bella. Example in the supposed second state with the signature of the publisher, Daman. Beautiful work printed on contemporary laid paper with thin margins on three sides, trimmed to platemark on lower part, light abrasions on the right side, otherwise in excellent condition. Very likely, this work belongs to an edition subsequent to the first (my hypothesis is the second of two) since besides the first address and the privilege next to the engraver’s name, there is another address, that of Daman, an Italian printer who worked in Bologna around 1650 printing second an onward states of various artists’ plates.
