Si tratta di una deliziosa e dotta guida attraverso le città ed i borghi d'Italia, che contiene incisioni dei fratelli Rouargue. Il viaggio di Paul in Italia durò quasi un anno: partito nel dicembre del 1842, tornò nell’autunno dell’anno successivo. A Marsiglia s’imbarcò sulla nave “Pharamond” che lo portò a Genova, dove soggiornò circa un mese. Da Genova, il bastimento toscano Leopoldo lo condusse a Napoli, dove si trattenne tre mesi, facendo diverse gite nella regione. L’8 aprile si imbarcò sulla nave “Mongibello” in direzione di Messina, per un giro della Sicilia di circa sei settimane. Tornato a Napoli, andò in diligenza per lo Stato Pontificio fino a Roma, dove rimase quaranta giorni. Poi fu la volta di Firenze, Bologna, Ferrara, Padova, Venezia. Incantato dalla città così cara al fratello, avrebbe desiderato trattenervisi a lungo ma, mancandogli il denaro, fu costretto a proseguire per Milano. Dopo una visita al lago di Como, prese la via del ritorno passando per il San Gottardo, Basilea e Strasburgo. Questo l’itinerario, secondo il resoconto che ne viene fatto nella prima versione, pubblicata nel 1845 col titolo Course en voiturin (Italie et Sicile). Negli anni 1855-1856 uscì un’altra versione molto estesa dello stesso viaggio: due grossi volumi di più di cinquecento pagine ciascuno, intitolati Voyage pittoresque en Italie. This is a delightful and learned guide through the cities and villages of Italy, which contains engravings by the Rouargue brothers. Paul's journey to Italy lasted almost a year: he left in December 1842 and returned in the autumn of the following year. In Marseilles he embarked on the ship "Pharamond" which took him to Genoa, where he stayed about a month. From Genoa, the Tuscan bastion Leopoldo took him to Naples, where he stayed three months, making several trips in the region. On April 8 he embarked on the ship "Mongibello" in the direction of Messina, for a tour of Sicily of about six weeks. Back in Naples, he went by stagecoach through the Papal States to Rome, where he stayed for forty days. Then it was the turn of Florence, Bologna, Ferrara, Padua, Venice. Enchanted by the city so dear to his brother, he would have liked to stay there for a long time but, lacking money, he was forced to continue to Milan. After a visit to the lake of Como, he took the way back through the St. Gotthard, Basel and Strasbourg. This is the itinerary, according to the account that is made in the first version, published in 1845 with the title Course en voiturin (Italie et Sicile). In the years 1855-1856 came out another very extensive version of the same journey: two large volumes of more than five hundred pages each, entitled Voyage pittoresque en Italie.
