Rara litografia tinta disegnata “d'apres nature” da Frederic Bourgeois de Mercey, litografata da Eugene Ciceri e stampata dall’editore Lemercier a Parigi. Venne pubblicata nella raccolta ' La Toscana e le Midi d’Italie. ' Notes de voyages, étude et recit, ' impressa nel 1858. Frédéric Bourgeois de Mercey, nasce il 20 maggio 1803 a Parigi e muore il 6 settembre 1860 al castello di La Faloise. Fu un pittore, scrittore di viaggi, critico d'arte e romanziere francese. Nasce a Parigi da Louis-Frédéric, vissuto nel regno di Napoli al servizio Gioacchino Murat. Ritornato in Francia alla fine del Decennio, il padre del nostro scrittore si dedicò allo studio delle Belle Arti. Questo clima culturale orientò le scelte di Frédéric Bourgeois. Inizialmente si dedicò alla pittura specializzandosi nel paesaggio (sue vedute sono conservate nei grandi musei francesi); quindi fu chiamato al ministero dell’Interno come responsabile delle Belle Arti, fino a raggiungere il grado di ministro di Stato. Visitò lungamente la Penisola, in particolare la Toscana e il Mezzogiorno. Uomo politico di orientamento democratico, profondo conoscitore del mondo classico e medioevale italiano, pubblicò numerose opere. Si occupò della Costa in un articolo per la “Revue des Deux-Mondes” del 1840 ' La République d’Amalfi, riversato, successivamente, nel volume ' La Toscana e le Midi d’Italie. Notes de voyages, étude et recit ' (Parigi 1858), accompagnato da un album di litografie basate sui numerosi disegni che egli andava riprendendo nei suoi tour. Frédéric Bourgeois de Mercey, was born on May 20, 1803 in Paris and died on September 6, 1860 at La Faloise Castle. He was a French painter, travel writer, art critic and novelist. He was born in Paris to Louis-Frédéric, who lived in the kingdom of Naples in the service of Joachim Murat.
