Beautiful 1763 map or of Santiago, Chile, by Marco Coltellini. Centered on the Mapocho River, it beautifully renders the capital city. The map is oriented to the south and notes roads, rivers, individual buildings and several important places of interest. A key to the locations in included on top of the map. A profile view of the small mountain of St. Lucia is included in the top right quadrant of the map, below the key. Relief is rendered in profile. This map was drafted by D. Veremondo Rossi and included in vol. 2 of the 1763 edition of Il Gazzettiere Americano.The atlas, in 3 volumes, with texts written by Giuseppe Pazzi, is the first Italian translation, enriched with notes and cards of "The American Gazetteer" published the year before in London by Millar & Tonson. The maps accompanying the atlas are derived from the French cartographer Jacques Nicolas Bellin, used for both the "Petit Atlas Maritime" and for "Histoire Generales de Voyages", with respect to which, however, are embellished with decorative cartouches and finely engraved. The works bear the signatures of Veremondo Rossi, Andrea Scacciati, Giuseppe Maria Terreni and also Violante Vanni, a rare case of Italian women's engagement in the cartographic field.
