Acquaforte con ritocchi a bulino, firmata in lastra in basso a sinistra. Esemplare del quarto stato di cinque. Bellissima prova, impressa su carta vergata coeva con filigrana della “Vergine” (Lieure 40), rifilata alla linea marginale, leggere abrasioni al verso, per il resto in ottimo stato di conservazione. Per lungo tempo il soggetto di questo lavoro rimase misterioso; il Lieure lo denominò San Nicola o San Severino, mentre più recenti studi identificano la composizione come San Amon, vescovo di Toul, in predica nella foresta davanti alla grotta in cui si ritirò in preghiera. Excellent work, printed on contemporary laid paper with “Virgo” watermark (Lieure 40), trimmed to marginal line, light abrasions on verso, in general in good condition. The subject of this present work as been a mystery for a long time; Lieure called it St. Nicholas of St. Severine, while more recent studies identifies it with St. Amon, bishop of Toul, while preaching in the forest in front of the cave where he retired to pray.
