Bulino, 1550 circa; in basso a destra iscrizione: "Bologna inventur a Fonteinebleau". Appartiene alla serie “Le Muse e le tre Grandi Dee”, incisa da Cornelis Bos da disegni di Francesco Primaticcio detto “il Bologna”. Si tratta di copie, in controparte, di incisioni di Leon Davent (1540 – 1550 circa) dagli affreschi di Primaticcio nella Galleria Bassa di Fontainebleau. La musa Talia, appoggiata ad una struttura ad arco, rivolta verso destra e con una pergamena nella mano sinistra. Le dodici Muse e dee adornavano i pennacchi degli archi della Galleria Bassa a Fontainebleau. Non è noto se le figure siano state eseguite a vernice o in rilievo a stucco. I disegni di Primaticcio per la serie si trovano nel Louvre, a parte Euterpe, che si trova nel museo Bonnat-Helleu di Bayonne, ed Erato, ora perso. I tratti di molti dei disegni si adattano perfettamente alle linee incise da Davent, suggerendo che servirono da modello per l’artista. Le incisioni di Davent sono state successivamente copiate da un incisore la cui identità rimane incerta, ma che è stato associato a Cornelis Bos (Schéle, 1965, pp. 206-207, Hollstein Dutch, III, p. 127). Magnifica prova, ricca di toni, impressa su carta vergata coeva priva di filigrana, rifilata al rame o con sottili margini, in eccellente stato di conservazione. From a set of twelve, representing the Muses and three goddesses, engraved by Cornelis Bos after Francesco Primaticcio, called “Bologna”. The plates are copies, in reverse of the prints executed by Léon Davent (1540 – 1550 circa) probably engraved after the frescoes executed by Primaticcio in the lower gallery at Fontainebleau. The series depicts the twelve Muses and Goddesses that adorned the spandrels of the arches of the Galerie Basse at Fontainebleau. It is not known whether the figures were executed in paint or stucco relief. Primaticcio's drawings for the series are in the Louvre apart from Euterpe, which is in the Musée Bonnat-Helleu in Bayonne, and Erato, now lost. The engravings on many of the drawings conform closely to the etched lines of Davent's prints, suggesting that they were the models used by the printmaker. Davent's prints were copied by a later etcher, whose identity remains uncertain but who has been associated with Cornelis Bos (Schéle, 1965, pp. 206-207, Hollstein Dutch, III, p. 127). Very good impression, printed with tone on contemporary laid paper without watermark, trimmed to the platemark or with thin margins, very good conditions.
